                                    The Missing Variable
   
Many bodybuilders and athletes today are aware of the three most important parts of their training program.  In no particular order, the three parts are workout, sleep, and nutrition.  If athletes are able to find a balance of all three of these factors, you are on your way to maximizing your physique, and reaching your true potential.  One thing that is an integral part of all of these three factors, is the mental variable.  Without mental determination, a bodybuilder will never achieve their maximum potential.  For example, if you are working out, and you go to the gym in a poor, and unfocused mindset, you will never maximize your workout.  You will never be able to complete your training needs, and/or push through for another few reps during the workout. To overcome this, you must go to the gym with a plan of attack for the day. Visualize what exercises you are going to perform that day, and also have alternate exercises, in case you are unable to follow the original game plan.  As for the nutrition and diet factor, without true mental determination, you will not be able to eat that extra dozen egg whites or eat another dry piece of chicken, to complete the required nutritional intake, that is a necessity in a bodybuilders daily regimen.  To overcome this, you must look at your diet the same way you look at working out. A meal is just another exercise that must be conquered to complete the routine.  As for the sleep variable, people ask "how can I apply a mental approach to sleeping?".  Well the answer is, you must have a clear mental mindset before you try and sleep, or else you will lie in bed for hours, tossing and turning.  To achieve that mental clarity before going to sleep, you need to have a game plan or schedule for the next day. Have your workouts written down and have your meals prepared, so that we do not have any excuses for the day.  By doing this you will be able to sleep peacefully, and the muscles will be forced to grow.  So never forget that with a strong mental attitude, and determination, you will not be denied the ablity to achieve tremendous results.
